Our return journey, however, was a little more adventurous ... on return to our hotel precinct, we happened upon a huge as Muslim festival parade which had completely over taken over the locale. We recognised the railway bridge as our landmark, which was cordoned off by police. But before we could alight from our tuk tuk, our driver hung a left and started off in a direction far, far away. My guess was that he was trying to circumnavigate the festival parade, but was certainly taking a more than the scenic route.
Fortunately in the modern age, even in Delhi, a cellphone call to Susan from other Susan (with me in the tuk tuk) let her know we were safe, but trying to get our belligerent tuk tuk driver to speak to her or anyone else on the phone to explain where we were was not a happening thing!
Eventually he got the message to return us to the main bazar, and on that return trip we went though places I am sure we would not have been taken by Susan, experienced a baby being shoved into our faces for money (sob) as well as double amputee (arm and leg) asking for help as well. These are images which, whilst I did not take with my camera, will be indelibly inked in my mind.
Arriving back to a relieved Susan, we were then able to be lucky enough to grab some shots of the festival, but will save that for another post, as it's almost time for breakfast!
Although it's a fuzzy pic, I thought the signage on the back of this tuk tuk had meaning for our own experience!
